Best Assassin’s Creed Games Ranked | Top Picks

Introduction

The Assassins’ Creed series is at the top of the gaming world. With 14 main games in the franchise it is a tough task to rank them but very fun to do. This list we present is our take on how each of the major Assassin’s Creed games do in terms of story, gameplay, and fun factor.

14. Assassin’s Creed Unity (2014)

Unity had a very difficult go at launch. We saw issues with the bugs which did not help. Also the story left much to be desired. While the parkour was smooth which was a plus, the combat was very disappointing. Also the co-op mode which they added in was a nice touch but in the end it didn’t pull the game out of the mire.

13. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (2015)

Syndicate did see an improvement over Unity which is saying something, but it still left a lot to be desired. We had a cool dual-protagonist system which was a plus, but the setting in London left out a lot. Combat action was better implemented this go around, but we had issues with the stealth elements.

12. Assassin’s Creed (2007)

The first to break it in was that game. The story was great but the gameplay very much so repetitive. Missions were the same over and over. At the same time it did lay the base for what was to come.

11. Assassin’s Creed III (2012)

This game introduced naval combat which we really enjoyed. As for the story it was slow and Connor as a hero left something to be desired. The hunting element was fun but in the end underused.

10. Assassin’s Creed Rogue (2014)

Rogue came out of left field. We tried the Templar out which was new. The story was short but it was interesting. Gameplay was like Black Flag’s which in turn was a positive.

9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020)

Valhalla is large scale -- maybe too much so. The Viking theme was great but the game was slow in parts. RPG elements were in depth, mission design however left much to be desired.

8. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018)

Odyssey jumped into the RPG genre in style, they did that very well. The world was huge and beautiful. Action in battle was what it was all about, but side quests dragged out the game. You could see the care put into the choices which was very nice.

7. Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017)

Origins did a reboot of the series. The RPG change out did itself. Ancient Egypt did not disappoint in the visual sense. Bayek did an amazing job as the lead character. Also very emotional and well put together stories.

6. Assassin’s Creed Mirage (2023)

Mirage went back to basic roots with a more compact, sneaky game. In Baghdad things were very active, and Basim抯 role was very interesting. Great blend of classic and current in this AC.

5. Assassin’s Creed Revelations (2011)

This was the end of Ezio’s story and we see that he went out in style. In Constantinople we see energy and the hookblade which he uses is a lot of fun. The story also does a great job in tying up his character’s arc.

4. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (2010)

Brotherhood did what was great about AC2 and improved on it. Rome was a massive feature and theassassins which could be recruited were a highlight. The multi player mode was a surprise in its fun factor.

3. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)

Black Flag was a pirate game at its core, secondly an AC game which is what made it work. We had great naval combat action. Edward Kenway did a fantastic job as a main character. Open world exploration was second to none.

2. Assassin’s Creed II (2009)

The series’ defining game. Ezio’s story was emotional and epic. Italy looked beautiful. Stealth, action, and parkour did see improvement. A true classic.

1. Assassin’s Creed Origins (Tie with AC2)

Origins is in a dead heat with AC2 for best. In a large step from its predecessors’ series which were more of a simulation type of game, Origins did a great job at turning the franchise into an RPG. Also the world, story and gameplay were nearly perfect.

Conclusion

The Assassin’s Creed series is a mixed bag. With that said AC2 and Origins really stand out. Each game in the series brings a different element. No matter your preference for action, RPG or adventure we have an AC game which will appeal to you.
